Simon Newcomb 1745-1776

From B.M. Newcomb's book: American Revolution: He was one of the Nova Scotia patriots in 1776, who advocated joining the revolted provinces.

  1. At one time, Simon Newcomb was considered a "revolutionary hero" and you could gain admittance into the NSDAR. In recent years, he is not longer accepted. Does anyone know of any documents which support what is in the Newcomb genealogy?

  2. "Anonymous" -- I'm not sure if you are asking just about Simon Newcomb or about the Newcomb genealogy in general. In general, there are many other sources that support the research of J.B. Newcomb and B.M. Newcomb, such as census records, marriage certificates, family bibles, etc. At the time the genealogies were being written, the authors also used information gathered from living people. During the years of my research, I have found occasional errors in the Newcomb genealogy, as happens in all such projects, and have published my corrections. As far as NSDAR goes, a person interested in joining a society based on their ancestry would need to find out exactly what kind of documentation that society requires.
